I need advice about leopard geckos!!!?
It doesn't really matter what you get a male or a female, but I would recommend a juvenile. I do not know where you can get a leo for that price. You will need a 10-20 gallon tank with papertowels on the bottom with food and water dishes, 2 hides (one dry and one wet), and branches and stones(optional), A heat lamp with a day bulb and with a night bulb(optional).
They eat two-three crickets a night for juveniles and about 2-3 crickets every other night. Juveniles eat small or ';pinhead'; crickets and adults eat large crickets. Waxworms may also be given a treat!! Once a week or so. If you feed them a lot of waxworms they will become addicted, fat or sick. Make sure you have calcium and vitamin powder made specifically for reptiles and put it on their food every other meal. THIS IS NECASSARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Crickets can be kept in a container, size depending on # of crickets, with a shallow water dish, food (vegetables, special cricket food) and lot's of crumpled nespaper. Waxworms will suffice being in a small container with oatmeal and get kept in the fridge, they will hibernate.
ALL THIS STUFF NEEDS TO GET BOUGHT AND SETUP AT LEAST A FEW DAYS IN ADVANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it dosent mater weather you get a male or female, they are pretty much the same. Get a baby...that way it will be more used to people handling it and will become a more tame adult.
you can get a baby leo at petco for around 30 bucks for just a normal coloring. i got an albino there for 65 and that wasnt a bad deal
Get the tank a week befor you get you gecko...that way you can find a place to set it up and get it up and running. Check the temp for a few days and make sure it dosent get to hot and that it dosent cool down to much at night
If you want to pay $20 - $30, chances are you'll get a hatchling. Those can be difficult to sex, but not impossible to trained eyes.
As long as you do not buy two, you should be OK with either a male or female. The danger is in buying two males. They'll fight to death when they're older.
There is nothing wrong with visiting Petco or Petsmart for your leo. They offer a health warranty that very few breeders match. And if you order one online, you have to add the cost of shipping, cool/heat packs, etc...
By all means, buy a tank for him beforehand. Furnish it with hides (one a moist hide), water and worm dish, and newspaper or even paper towels for bedding. Avoid using calci-sand or heat rocks. And, chances are that you may need a heat mat as well.
i recomend a male(unless u plan 2 breed). a juvinile would be less exspansive i got mine at sailfin petshop im champain il for $29
Well you definatly need the habitat before the leo cause when yu bring him home yu will want to put him in something other wise you will stress him out. they need a few days to adjust to the new setting so yu need to leave him alone. You do know that they are nocturnal right and they are active in the evening and through the night.
