Need advice about grooming a hyper maltipoo.?

my sister has this adorable one year old male malti poo. The only problem is he won't sit still for anything at the groomers!! Does anyone out there know any humane way to calm him down during the process? Thank you for your time. :) (his fur is driving my sister nuts cuz it's all messed up.......)Need advice about grooming a hyper maltipoo.?
Give him a nice long walk before going to the groomers.

Get a hair shaver (cheap just need the noise) and turn it on and practice the moves of grooming without actually doing it. When the dog is quiet, giving him a treat or love. It will teach the dog that these signs and actions are for being calm not excited.Need advice about grooming a hyper maltipoo.?
exercize him like crazy before grooming him.

Also train him to tolerate grooming.

Do short grooming sessions.. pick a time when he is calm, and work on grooming, praise him for sitting still.. one thing you can do is distract him with a treat while the other grooms him. As long as he's calm continue to praise and reward.. as soon as he starts to act ';fidgity';.. stop the grooming and rewards, set him down, and ignore him.

Even if you only get 10 seconds of brushing.. those few seconds of brushing and praise will gradually turn into longer sessions. Try working with him a few times a day on this.

He will learn to associate the grooming as something good, and attention... and learn that when he acts fussy and fidgity, he will be ignored.

DO NOT give your dog asprin!

Asprin will NOT calm the dog down! Asprin is a blood thinner and a pain killer. I personally would not use a blood thinner on a dog that is about the be groomed.. as there is a chance that the groomer may accidentally cut a nail too short, or nick the dog with the clippers.. accidents happen.. but a blood thinner will inhibit the clotting ability.. nails dont clot as quickly and easily as a regular cut anyways.. NO ASPRIN!
Hi --Don't know if I have the answer, but I do have to chuckle. I have a Maltipoo also. She is 8 months old and has been groomed several times. The first time I took her to the groomer I thought for sure it would never actually get done, as she never even sits still for me to brush her at home. But----to my surprise, at the groomers, she sat perfectly still and even gave the groomer kisses during the process. If I hadn't seen it, i would not have believed it! She was like a different dog. Sounds like you were not as fortunate. The only thing I can suggest that might work is to give her half of a baby aspirin. That should do no harm to your dog, but at the same time may calm him down enough to settle down for a haircut. Definitely need to get his fur cleaned up. Once the hair gets matted, it starts hurting the dog. Maybe try a different groomer? I don't know the secret, but it is important for the dog to get groomed. Try the baby aspirin thing, and if you have hesitations on the suggestion----call your vet and ask him if that would be ok. It should not be a problem. Good luck!
you need to exercise the dog every single day. the only reason why dogs act hyper like that is because they have a TON of energy and unfortunately us lazy humans often don't fill their needs. putting them out in the yard or taking them for a stroll up the driveway and back DOES NOT DO IT FOR THEM. put some skates on or get on your bike and run him by you for at least an hour a day. at the very least 1/2 hour. you will have a calm happy amazing dog after you do that.

cheers
