Relationships and what people want from them has evolved considerably in the last 50 years ?
People have more freedom to pursue their ambitions and dreams.
There is huge consumer choice
We are evolving beyond basic needs like, food, health, etc into creating very complex sets of needs.
People have more information, more reference points, more right and wrong ways to find and conduct a relationship.
In the midst of these confusing times, how influential; and how much importance should be given to previous generations advice about modern relationships ?How current is prev generations advice about modern relationships.?
Key advice regarding the basics of a relationship, (mutual respect, trust, and honesty), will never change. However, evolution is a major factor when looking at current dating behavior. You just can't ignore the various factors that come in to play, that weren't even an issue for previous generations. ';Back in the day'; can only go so far, take it as anecdotal information, not as a blueprint for dating today. How current is prev generations advice about modern relationships.?
Nothing arises out of nowhere, and one of the factors which created the pattern of modern relationships is the previous generations' experience of their relationships, so you should take it into account with everything else if you want a sound basis for the decisions you need to take. But don't only listen to them - your world is different from theirs.
as we of previous generations still live with the changing times you speak about, our ';advice'; can be very good. No matter what environmental changes or evolvement has taken place over the years human nature %26amp; emotions are still basically the same.
Styles change, skirts get longer and then shorter again. Cars get big and then small again. Hairstyles change... Men and Women, relationships... these things have not changed since Adam met Eve. My guess is that you are on the young side of life and have received some words of advice that were not what you wanted to hear. You should always pay respect to advice that is given to you by previous generations because they have already learned from the mistakes that you don't even know you are going to make yet. Sure, things seem different today but every generation feels that way. I disagree with your notion of more right and wrong ways to conduct a relationship. The thing is that everyone knows what is Right and what is Wrong- there are just too many people out there with out the strength to choose Right. You let me know when you evolve past the need of food because that would sure help a lot of Americans lose some weight.
