Need advice about living in charlton (SE7).?

Hi,

me and my wife are planning to move to charlton. Any idea howz the place like? I have heard nasty things abt places in south east london like peckham, camberwell etc.

How does charlton compare with them in terms of safety etc..?

Regards.

I would say that if anything Charlton is worse than Peckham and Camberwell as you do not have the Police presence on the ground and there are less people around so feels more unsafe. I lived there for a short period and didnt particularly enjoy it but I guess it depends what you want.

For me it felt like it was in the middle of nowhere - not proper London nor properly out of London but suburban sprawl.

There is little to do in Charlton itself - the high street has one or two restaurants, shops etc but it is close to Greenwich, Blackheath and reasonably close by train to central London. Charlton does have big supermarkets on an industrial estate type area.

If I had a choice of Camberwell of Charlton I would choose Camberwell every time - its got so much more to it - its a proper community, has got independent shops, good restaurants and pubs and is that bit closer in to central London so it is easier to get around.

But dont let me put you off - I guess you've got to come to the area and experience it yourself before you can decide. Also look at the other areas with an open mind - dont be put off by what other people say and reputations of the area that may be out of date
Don't move there - it is awful.
It is nice in comparison to the places you have mentioned. It is good for shopping, but you do not want to live near the stadium due to noise. Charlton village is quite a nice area to live in.
Don't do it!!!
Don't. It's a s***hole.
